NXT has put a bow around its TakeOver: New Orleans live event from Smoothie King Center as the promotion wrapped up the show tonight (Saturday, April 7, 2018) with a win by Johnny Gargano over Tommaso Ciampa that was as brutal as it was cathartic.
Was it the best match on the card?
There’s a real case to be made for this as the best TakeOver in a run of 20 good-to-great NXT live specials over the years. Adam Cole won an insane ladder match opener which featured Ricochet and Velveteen Dream threatening to steal the show right out of the gate. Shayna Baszler defeated Ember Moon to become the new Women’s champ in a psychology heavy bout, then Roderick Strong helped Undisputed ERA keep the tag belts with a swerve that would have fit on Nitro. And Andrade Almas’ string of great title matchess continued even as his title reign ended at the hands of Aleister Black.
