The Big Dog’s trip to Saudi Arabia was not a success. Roman Reigns not only came up short again in his quest to defeat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title - albeit in CONTROVERSIAL fashion, he also lost a place in the record books.
WWE confirmed as much in a post on their website. Braun Strowman eliminated 13 men en route to winning the first ever Greatest Royal Rumble match in Jeddah on April 27, breaking Reigns’ record of 12 from the 2014 regular Royal Rumble.
There’s an obvious caveat here, as Roman’s total was set in a 30 man match, while Strowman had 20 additional wrestlers in the version where he broke the record. But while we can put an asterisk next to Braun’s name for this one, it’s still another company talking point which will no longer be associated with Reigns.
That is comes at a time when many are wondering if Vince McMahon has finally abandoned his push to make Roman “The Guy” is curious.
Discuss amongst yourself, and stay tuned.
