The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is a special event called Greatest Royal Rumble, taking place on Fri., April 27, 2018, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Because of the time difference, the show will air live at 12 pm ET. It appears to be a mix of a standalone live show and one that takes place within current television storylines.
We're just under one week away from showtime and the card is all but complete:
- Greatest Royal Rumble
There are 18 wrestlers confirmed for the match right now: Daniel Bryan, Braun Strowman, Big Show, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Elias, Baron Corbin, Big E, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Apollo Crews, Shelton Benjamin, Sin Cara, Chad Gable, Goldust, Titus O’Neil, Mojo Rawley, Dolph Ziggler
- Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (Universal championship)
This is the rematch from WrestleMania 34. It will be a Steel Cage match. It’s not exactly clear why Lesnar has to beat Reigns again when he beat him clean just weeks ago, but here we are.
- AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE championship)
Another rematch from WrestleMania 34 where the champion retained his title in a clear victory and the challenger gets a rematch for seemingly no good reason. In this case, Nakamura has spent the past couple weeks hitting Styles with nut shot after nut shot.
- Jeff Hardy vs. Jinder Mahal (U.S. championship)
Hardy won the title from Mahal after Jinder came over to Raw in the Superstar Shakeup, then was immediately shipped over to SmackDown. This is the rematch.
- Seth Rollins vs. The Miz vs. Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe (Intercontinental championship)
This is a ladder match. WWE has done very little to promote it on television, almost like it’s not even happening. But it is.
- John Cena vs. Triple H
This also hasn’t been promoted on television.
- Undertaker vs. Rusev (Casket match)
This was announced, then changed to Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho, then abruptly changed back. The best anyone could come up with was that it was all a creative decision and nothing more. No matter how unlikely that seems, it appears to be happening.
- Woken Matt Hardy & Bray Wyatt vs. The Bar (Raw tag team championship)
Cesaro and Sheamus are now SmackDown wrestlers, which would seem to spoil this, but there’s always Backlash if they want to switch the titles back later.
- The Bludgeon Brothers vs. The Usos (SmackDown tag team championship)
Harper and Rowan won the titles at WrestleMania 34. Jimmy & Jey earned a shot at them by defeating The New Day on SmackDown just days later.
- Cedric Alexander vs. TBA (Cruiserweight championship)
Buddy Murphy was going to get the shot but he failed to make weight so they’ve booked a Gauntlet match for 205 Live this week to determine who will challenge Alexander.
That appears to be the full card. Rey Mysterio, Shane McMahon, Mark Henry, and Great Khali are all rumored to be participating in the Greatest Royal Rumble.
