For those unfamiliar with WWE Network’s Wednesday night show, Almas is former CMLL standout and Los Ingobernables founding member La Sombra, signed a couple years back to work without a mask (because he’s gorgeous). Despite being a great worker, he floundered as a face in NXT. He was paired with Vega - who some may know from her stint in TNA as Rosita - and flourished, rising to claim the title and defend it in one of the best matches in NXT history against Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: Philadelphia.
He lost the belt to Aleister Black in New Orleans which saw plenty of interference from Zelina (who actually hits wrestling moves on male wrestlers in NXT... we’ll see if that continues on SmackDown). Now they’re here.
