Sometimes when wrestling shows have to be taped in advance, a big enough plot point happens that the promotion goes ahead and breaks the news themselves.
One of those happened during the episodes NXT filmed on Mar. 7 at Full Sail Live in Winter Park, Florida. WWE’s black-and-yellow brand is putting the finishing touches on the card for their big pre-WrestleMania live special, TakeOver: New Orleans, so everyone knew there would be major happenings on Wednesday night. No one was expecting the announcement of a secondary men’s singles title - and especially not a brand new belt - though.
That’s what we got, when General Manager William Regal announced the NXT North American championship. The new strap will be awarded to the winner of a six-man ladder match which will take place on Sat., April 7 in Smoothie King Center. The spoilers don’t stop there, either. WWE.com’s story on the new title includes the names of the men who’ll take part in that ladder match, and it includes two of their newest members of the roster... EC3 and Ricochet.
And, yes, that’s how they’ve been announced.
Those two will battle Adam Cole, Killian Dain, Velveteen Dream and Lars Sullivan, as each man tries to climb the ladder and grab the new belt.
Let that sink in, and head over to our full spoiler post from the taping if you need even more developments.
