The WWE is really proud and happy that fans asked them to change the Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal into WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. Nothing to see here. Totally hyped to rename something they just named 48 hours prior.
In a new interview conducted today (Mar. 16) at the WrestleMania 35 announcement press conference, PW Insider asked Stephanie McMahon about the flood of negative feedback the company got from the public before they decided to change the name of the match.
“I love that the WWE audience expressed their opinions, whether they are positive or negative. I think that it is our responsibility to listen to our audience and do our best to give them what they want. Clearly, they did not want to name the Women’s Battle Royal after The Fabulous Moolah. We were really proud that they spoke up and we were really happy to make that change.”
On if the WWE plans to name the match after another former female wrestler McMahon added
“For right now, we are sticking with the WrestleMania Battle Royal Branding.”
Yesterday, both McMahon and the title sponsor of WrestleMania 34 Snickers made similar comments applauding the removal The Fabulous Moolah from the match name.
Now that the controversy is wrapping up, is it time for the WWE to be praised for making right on their mistake? Or should the company still be criticized for putting themselves in the situation in the first place?
