The case for Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair to main event WrestleMania 34

The arguments of our crack video team, Cain A. Knight and Stef Hatala, are contained in the above clip, but there’s a couple really worth emphasizing.

When have we seen two women built-up the way WWE has done with Charlotte Flair and Asuka? The “Women’s Evolution” has produced some great rivalries like Sasha Banks and Charlotte, or Sasha and Bayley. But there’s an underdog to those, and certainly nothing like the championship pedigree of Flair on one-side and the sheer dominance of Asuka on the other.

Yes, it’s scripted so it’s not exactly the same thing. But the SmackDown Women’s title program for WrestleMania 34 is one of the biggest clashes women’s combat sports has seen. With the right amount of hype, the general public might embrace Asuka/Flair in a way they never did Jedrzejczyk vs. Gadelha or Rousey vs. Tate.

And, unlike some of the spectacle heavy bouts on the card for New Orleans, there’s very little chance The Queen and The Empress won’t deliver. Why not wrap up the night on April 8 by making history with an actual great match?

It’s a pipe dream, but that doesn’t make it a bad idea. Let us know what you think.
