Less than one month after winning the US title tournament, Bobby Roode put his belt on the line versus Rusev tonight (Feb. 6) on SmackDown. Last week on SmackDown, Rusev defeated Zack Ryder and Kofi Kingston in a number one contender's match to earn a shot this week.
For the past few months Rusev has tagged with Aiden English, promoted the Rusev Day holiday and generally stayed away from single action.
The Roode vs. Rusev match-up worked at a snail’s pace for the opening five minutes or more. Rusev worked takedowns and wore down Roode with head and facelocks in the early goings of the match.

Roode started a brief rally but it was quickly halted when English went for a distraction and Rusev capitalized with a brutal kick. Rusev’s head kick earned the challenger a long two count on Roode.

After Rusev continued to dominate the second half of the title match, the Bulgarian Brute landed another vicious kick to Roode’s skull. With the champ out, Rusev went for The Accolade but it was quickly countered by Bobby Roode into a Glorious DDT.
One DDT was all it took to crush Rusev (on Rusev Day) and pick up the victory for Roode.
