They may be friends, fellow Horsewomen and now co-workers, but even NXT’s Shayna Baszler was kept in the dark about Ronda Rousey’s arrival in WWE at Royal Rumble last Sunday (Jan. 28).
In this new video from WWE, The Queen of Spades says that - just like Ronda’s stepsons - she and others close to “Rowdy” like Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir didn’t know about the moment in advance, because she wanted to pop her friends with the surprise:
“Man, I was just as surprised as everone else. She kept that from all of us because, in her own word, she wanted us to feel the genuine excitement that the rest of the world felt.
We worked hard to get where we’re at right now, all of us, so to see her, like, genuinely happy and finally getting to soak in that reward, it’s great.”
Baszler is also confident her friend is headed for big things in her new career:
“I’ve known Ronda for a while, and everything she decides to do, she dives head first, 100% into, so I have no doubt she’ll be just as dominant in WWE as she’s been in everything else.”
Whether or not you were “genuinely excited” about Rousey’s entrance on the scene, what do you think of her friend’s assessment of her prospects as a pro wrestler?
