WWE Elimination Chamber 2018: Ronda Rousey contract signing preview

Since surprising everyone by not being in Colombia at 11PM Eastern on Jan. 28 and instead sneaking into Philadelphia to point at stuff, fans have been wondering when we’d see Ronda Rousey back in a WWE ring, and what she’d do once she got there.

We know the when, and we’ve got some clues, reports and rumors about the what.

Rowdy will sign her contract to become a Raw Superstar at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view (PPV) on Sunday, Feb. 25 in Paradise, Nevada.

Barring some pretty major roster machinations, that probably rules out one of the women she shared the ring with at Royal Rumble - SmackDown Women’s champion Charlotte Flair. It does not, however, rule out the other three performers she interacted with - Raw champ Alexa Bliss, Rumble winner Asuka and commissioner/possible heir to the company Stephanie McMahon.

Bliss and the undefeated Empress have other things to worry about this weekend. And since a contract signing usually means authority figures, and we can’t imagine The Billion Dollar Princess won’t want to be front-and-center during this historic moment... you can probably see where we’re going with this.

Which brings us to (drum roll, please):

What we expect to see during Ronda Rousey’s contract signing

Some awkward tension with Steph which mentions their run-in at WrestleMania 31, both as a way to start building to Ronda’s mixed tag debut, and to create the impression Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle star Dwayne Johnson might actually return to wrestle at this year’s Showcase of the Immortals in New Orleans. Since General Manager Kurt Angle is rumored to be one of the back-up plans should his Hollywood partners not give The Rock the go-ahead to work a match, Angle will be there, too, maybe even finally advancing the tension with McMahon and her husband Triple H (who probably won’t but could be at T-Mobile Arena) from Survivor Series.

If Raw had any female enhancement talent they weren’t already using elsewhere during the PPV, WWE might trot them out here to get hip tossed or otherwise judo thrown. Instead, if they think it’s important to show Ronda getting physical, Steph might actually take a bump to kick her into “witchy woman out for revenge” mode.

None of which should be confused with:

What we wish we would see during Ronda Rousey’s contract signing

Wouldn’t it be great if instead of “Ronda signs her contract at Elimination Chamber” it was “Ronda signs her contract in an Elimination Chamber match”?

Like, all the Superstars who’ve trash talked her or thrown shade her way get let out of pods to attack her. Rousey has to survive waves of haters with more pro wrestling experience and training than her in order to sign the paperwork contained in the final compartment.

Nobody else? Just me?

Okay, good thing we’re much more likely to get the first scenario then.

Join us at 8PM Eastern time on Sunday night, Feb. 25 to find out exactly how Rowdy’s second night in WWE goes - and what it will tell us about her next several appearances!
