Following UFC 232, where Jon Jones won the light heavyweight championship and called out Daniel Cormier, UFC President Dana White mentioned there is still a possibility that Cormier will fight current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. When Cormier was asked about it on The MMA Hour, he had this to say (via MMA Fighting):
“As of right now with the Lesnar thing, that’s kinda still up in the air. I’ve gotten a lot of, ‘You’re not willing to fight Jones, you talk trash about Jones [and he his drug testing issues], but you’re willing to fight Lesnar?’ Nobody knows what’s in place in terms of drug testing between Brock Lesnar and I. These are just general assumptions as to what is Brock Lesnar truly going through right now to try to be eligible to compete. We could be doing so many different things that people are unaware of, and if Brock Lesnar’s clean on the day that we fight, because of these things, then why can’t I fight him?
Cormier also noted that he remains steadfast in his plans to hang it up sooner rather than later, and that it’s a decision he made with his family. Having said that, he makes clear that if it isn’t Lesnar, it will be Stipe Miocic, who he knocked out to win the heavyweight title.
Lesnar, meanwhile, is scheduled to be back on television for WWE soon building to the upcoming Royal Rumble event, where he’ll defend the Universal title against Braun Strowman. He’s also scheduled to wrestle at WrestleMania 35 in April.
