Best. Rusev Day. Ever.
You now something special was going to happen when Rusev Day just happened to fall on Christmas Day this year. Not only was it Rusev Day but 34-years-ago today (Dec. 25) Rusev was born in Bulgaria.
Happy birthday Rusev and happy Rusev Day, Rusev.
Matched up with Shinsuke Nakamura in a United States Championship match, Rusev looked to regain a title he had not held since Sept. 2016. While Nakamura looked to continue his quite title reign that began way back in Jul. 2018.
The match itself was okay, perhaps a little too long, but did have a thrilling ending.

After hitting a brutal Machka Kick, Nakamura surprisingly kicked out. Rusev was shocked. The crowd was shocked. While Nakamura began to mount his comeback. The champ locked in a triangle choke that was ever so close to getting a tap out.
The challenger would then ram his shoulder into the ring post and it looked like Rusev’s chances to take home the US title would go quietly into the night. It would take a second Machka Kick right on the chin of Shinsuke Nakamura to garner the Lion of Bulgaria the 1-2-3 and the United States Championship.
