Asuka feels like she has finally arrived.
Having spent over a year on up on the main roster, Asuka’s title win at TLC was maybe the biggest accomplishment in her pro wrestling career.
In a new interview with Tokyo Sports, Asuka revealed a downright touching moment between herself and Vince McMahon. Following her first title win on the main roster, Asuka said she was first congratulated by McMahon on the good match at TLC and then surprisingly embraced by the WWE chairman.
Per Google Translate of the interview
“After I finished the match, everyone backstage welcomed us, clapping.” Chairman Vince McMahon hugged her directly and said “Congratulations, it was a good match.” “I was really happy,” said Asuka.”
Asuka would go on to say in the interview that it feels like now she has officially arrived in WWE.
The new SmackDown women’s champion closed the interview by calling out Raw women's champion’s Ronda Rousey. Count Asuka in as another member of the women’s locker room who says her ideal match at WrestleMania 35 would be versus Rousey.
With some combination of Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair on a collision course, where does Asuka fit in with WWE’s plans for the Royal Rumble and beyond?
