The three best teams in WWE collide one more time in 2018

The Bar (c) vs. The New Day vs. The Usos

Triple Threat match for the SmackDown tag team championships

Are you surprised to see these team in yet another tag title PPV match? I didn’t think so.

This triple threat match consists of all the major players in the SmackDown tag title scene, and really, the entire WWE tag scene in 2018. The Bar is relatively new compared to the Usos and New Day when it comes to the SmackDown scene. The Usos and New Day have been tearing up that scene for well over a year. But the Bar only moved to SmackDown this spring. Prior to that, they had spent time on Raw in that title scene instead.

In that sense, there’s nothing new here. It almost feels feels like they hold gold as often as they don’t. But while it’s pretty standard to see these teams in this position, it’s going to deliver as long as given enough time. (Something that’s not actually guaranteed given how man matches are on the card.)

All these teams have had great chemistry when they’ve been in there two on two. We’ve seen that with New Day vs. Usos last summer with their epic battles. We’ve seen that with the New Day and the Bar at the end of this year. The Usos and the Bar haven’t met as often, but when they have, you guessed it, it’s very good. So, there’s little doubt that they’ll click when they get in there tonight. As long as they get a little bit of time to put something together, this should be fun, even if doesn’t feel very new.

Here’s how we got here:

Big Show turned heel (surprise!) to align with the Bar, aiding them in winning the tag team titles at SmackDown 1000.

He then aided them in retaining the titles a couple more times. That was until Cesaro mouthed off to him backstage and Big Show punched Cesaro, turning on them (surprise!).

After that, the Bar took losses to both the Usos and the New Day, now that they didn’t have the Big Bad Show Tonight backing them up. In WWE, beating the champs gets you a title match so a triple threat was how it’d be. Given there wasn’t much they needed to do to get people interested in a match between the three top teams in WWE, they had themselves a rap battle last week. The Bar were so bad that it’s possible they won.

At least Vanilla Ice dug it.

This match is fitting to close out the year, featuring three teams that have epitomized the tag scene in SmackDown in 2018, and in the Bar’s case, some of Raw. (The fourth team being the Bludgeon Brothers.) As long as it’s given enough time, it should deliver like all these guys do.

Then hopefully in 2019, we can see a few more teams on the blue brand climb their way to the top.

WWE TLC airs tonight at 7 ET on WWE Network. Keep it here to CagesideSeats.com for all of your TLC coverage.
