NXT results, live blog (Nov. 7, 2018): Velveteen Dream vs. Lars Sullivan

Here's a place to check results and comment along with the latest airing of WWE NXT in its regular Wednesday night at 8PM Eastern time slot on WWE Network.

- No fuss as right after the open, Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness and Percy Watson are talking about the guys entering Full Sail for the first match

- Heavy Machinery def. Forgotten Sons via pinfall (pop-up powerslam from Otis Dozovic to Wesley Blake)

Tucker Knight starts and gets in some early offense, but ends up stuck in the corner of Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler. He gets some separation and flattens the Sons with a crossbody and gets the tag. Otis Dozovic comes in hot, finishing a sequence with the Caterpillar, but a roll out saves Blake. He and Cutler snap his arm over the top rope when he reaches for them, and they set to work on the damaged body part. Blake catches him in a triangle, and it looks like he might pass out, but Otis lifts him up for the slam. He’s still not able to get to the corner, but Cutler hits him with a DDT which sends him right into the tag. Knight cleans house, and gets a nearfall on a cannonball senton from the top. A blind tag sets Tucker up for a elbow drop/backbreaker combo, but Knight kicks out. A follow up superplex/frog splash looks like it might end things, but Dozer breaks up the pin. Things break down and Dozovic and Blake go over the top rope. Things break down with Knight taking out Cutler & Jaxson Ryker by shoving Steve off the top, and leaving Dozer alone to finish Blake.

- We get a recap of Candice LeRae confronting Nikki Cross, and Aleister Black confronting Mrs. Gargano, from last week. Jeremy Borash is one of the voices who catches up with LeRae as she entered the Performance Center “earlier today”. She didn’t come here to be “exploited” and would like to keep everything between her and Johnny private. Candice has questions, too, though... questions for Cross. She plans to ask General Manager William Regal for a match against Nikki.

- Hype for this week’s main event and Johnny Gargano segment follow, then Nita Strauss’ WarGames theme gets a spot. TakeOver’s NXT title match is hyped and we’re reminded Mauro Ranallo will be back in Los Angeles.

- Cathy Kelley asks Shayna Baszler (who’s hanging with Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir) about Kairi Sane’s rematch. The Women’s champ starts to answer, saying everyone needs to get it through their heads Kairi is beneath her. Regal interrupts to tell her Sane has cashed in her rematch clause, and he’s decided to make it a best two-out-of-three falls match at WarGames.

- Dakota Kai def. Taynara Conti via pinfall following the Kai-ropractor.

The Brazilian judo black belt comes out and quickly takes control, but Kai catches a kick behind her back to get on offense. Conti responds to the captain of Team Kick with a kick of her own, hitting Kai in the forearm when she tries to go up and over. Lots of kicks and judo throws from Taynara, but Dakota won’t stay down, even after a stiff-sounding one to the head. Kai powers up from an arm hold, but can’t get momentum until she dodges a charge that sees Conti go head first into the corner. The Kiwi takes over from there, getting through her finishing sequence while selling her arm.

- Kelley interviews Mia Yim, who says her time since signing has been like living a dream. Bianca Belair walks through, and wants to know why Cathy is talking to her when she should be talking to her. She’s been here for years and is still un (pause, loudly chews gum) de (pause, loudly chews gum) fee (pause, loudly chews gum) ted and stil hasn’t received her title shot. Mia doesn’t know what her problem is, but she may be undefeated, but she hasn’t beaten the HBIC, the head baddie in charge. Belair doesn’t seem impressed as she walks off.

- Matt Riddle’s debut win is recapped, and we see the video of Kassius Ohno welcoming “Mr. Regal’s shiny new toys” Riddle and Keith Lee to NXT.

- Great video package for WarGames’ four-on-four, recapping the history of Undisputed ERA and their issues with their opponents War Raiders, Ricochet and Pete Dunne.

- A graphic for Johnny Gargano vs. Aleister Black segues to a selfie promo Johnny sent in where he says he’ll answer “everything”. He’s walking around Full Sail’s campus, and shows us the path where Aleister Black was found laid out. At the end of that path was Tommaso Ciampa, so Black was only in the way. Collatoral damage. He thought Aleister would understand that, walking around hitting everyone with the Black Mass. Aleister says no man is ever truly good or evil. He feels sorry for Black, because he knows he’s the good guy. He’s the hero of the story. He’s just learned that around here, sometimes you have to fight a little dirty. He understands Aleister probably wants to kick his face off now, and maybe he deserves that. But he’s not afraid. Black lives in the dark, and Johnny’s getting used to it. In fact, he kind of likes it. He closes by showing the spot on the pavement where he left Aleister laying, and vows to do the same at TakeOver.

- Next week, Belair vs. Yim will happen. Joseph kicks it to the back, where Mr. Regal announces another match for the ‘go home’... a singles match between guys from the WarGames match with the winner getting the advantage in that.

- Lars Sullivan def. Velveteen Dream via pinfall following a Freak Accident

Dream enters first, and is a little wary but still taunts Lars before the bell and uses that distraction to throw his robe at him. It doesn’t work, as Sullivan powers through and starts throwing the smaller man around. But Velveteen punches his way out of a powerbomb set-up though, and sends Lars to the floor with his own momentum. Then he throws himself onto Sullivan and whips him into the steps. Dream waves off a countout and pays for it when Lars throws him into the apron. After a splash, Sullivan starts bieling him around the ring and mixing rest holds with big strikes as he wears his opponent down. Dream kicks out a few times, then takes a wild bump over the turnbuckles off a whip, but Velveteen somehow makes it back to the ring to break the count. The #1 contender looks like he might pass out from a nerve hold after that, but as the crowd chants his name, Dream gets up and breaks the hold with a jaw jack. Speed allows Velveteen to land a few strikes and a nifty pop-up dropkick, then a missle one from the top gets two. Dream tries to lift Lars on his shoulders, but that gets countered to a powerslam for a nearfall for Sullivan. Velveteen catches him with a superkick when he climbs for the diving headbutt. He tries for a superplex, but Lars fights him off and dives, but Dream rolls out of the way. He evades a charge and grabs him for the Dream Valley Drive. He climbs for the Purple Rainmaker, and here comes Tommaso Ciampa. Before the champ can do anything, Dream dives on him. But as soon as he gets back in the ring, Lars grabbed him and that’s all she wrote.

- Ciampa stays off the ramp while Sullivan leaves, then gets in the ring to beat Dream down and tell him he doesn’t share his spotlight, because Velveteen is not in his league. Dream lands a punch, but can’t keep the momentum and seems poised to take a move on the NXT title. But he recovers and gets loose to hit a superkick. Swinging DDT on the belt! He heads up top for the Rainmaker, but several officials run in to stop him. He feigns leaving, then races back to the ring and hits the elbow drop! He celebrates with the belt as Full Sail goes wild and the episode ends.
