While his elbow obviously isn’t “shattered”, Braun Strowman will be spending some time at a medical facility - likely one in Birmingham, Alabama.
That’s according to Dave Meltzer on the episode of Wrestling Observer Radio recorded after Raw last night (Nov. 19).
“Well, I guess the biggest news is that Braun Strowman is going to have elbow surgery so the deal tonight was a cover for that. He has bone spurs in the elbow that they ‘destroyed’ was the one that he has bone spurs in.
It’s not a bad deal, obviously his elbow was not shattered. It’s touch and go whether he’ll be in San Jose for the match with Baron Corbin, the TLC match they announced. I guess it depends on the seriousness of the surgery.
The belief is he’s fine for the Royal Rumble with Brock Lesnar which they also announced surprisingly announced that match tonight. So that is the plan. So that’s the deal of what’s going on with Strowman, why they did what they did.”
As Meltzer references, this isn’t Braun’s first elbow surgery. Nor is it the first time WWE wrote him out of storylines in a way which exaggerated the issues . A Roman Reigns attack led to a kayfabe announcement his elbow was - you guessed it - “shattered” back in May of last year. At that time, the company reported he’d be out six months despite word from other sources he’d be out two months, max. He was back by June.
There was also speculation Strowman was working through knee problems. And controversial rumors of backstage heat.
We’ll keep you posted.
