It’s one of the four bullet points in WWE.com’s official preview for the Survivor Series ‘go home’ edition of SmackDown on Tues., Nov. 13:
“Who will join The Usos & The New Day at Survivor Series?”
Team Blue captains Jimmy & Jey have three open spots for their five team elimination tag match against Raw’s squad of Chad Gable & Bobby Roode, The Revival, Ascension, The B-Team and Lucha House Party. Asking who else they’ll add to the team after tapping their friendly rivals Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods seems like a logical question.
But a scan of the roster for SmackDown reveals there are only three other teams both (a) currently exist and (b) have both members healthy. So unless they create a team out of, say, Rusev & Jeff Hardy tonight, the rest of the blue side will have to be Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows, SAnitY and The Colons.
Yeesh.
None of those teams has been involved in a storyline, let alone presented as serious threats in quite some time. Eric Young’s faction and Primo & Epico haven’t even been on screen with any regularity. Young, Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe will have to disregard their chaos & anarchy schtick to play nice, and almost certainly eat a pin.
It doesn’t really matter, of course. It’s a throwaway pre-show match that exists to get The New Day on the card, and the team with the merch-moving Princes of Positivity on it is probably going to win.
Heck, Raw had to “call-up” Kalisto’s squad from 205 Live to get to five (Beauty & The Man-Beast get no respect). And they built to Survivor Series with a pair of heatless matches for the captaincy, one of which ended with Braun Strowman again clowning the entire division.
It’s just a bummer for fans of tag team wrestling. Or anyone hoping for some good surprises tonight.
