A lot of people took last Monday’s on-screen alliance of real life cousins Nia Jax and Tamina on Raw as another sign the long-rumored women’s tag team titles were on step closer to finally being announced.
Maybe they are, and maybe the Jax/Tamina team will be the first to hold them. But as of now (or whenever Nia spoke to SportBible last week while WWE was in the United Kingdom), the Irresistible Force isn’t on board with pairs belts for the women:
“You know what, I’m probably going to get some crap for it but I’m not [in favor of introducing tag titles].
I don’t think it’s need [sic] anytime soon personally. Obviously if I were to be put in the tag division I would want Tamina Snuka to be on my side - I just feel like we’d be unstoppable. But I’m not someone that thinks it’s needed yet.”
There’s no follow up, at least in the post on the interview from SportBible here, and I’d be interested in hearing why Jax doesn’t see a need. Personally, I’m torn - another set of titles might force WWE to tell more stories with the women’s roster on a consistent basis, but it also might just be another prop they occassionally use but otherwise forget about.
But now we know where Nia stands, if not why. Does it do anything for your own position on women’s tag titles, Cagesiders?
