Can a title run with the most prestigious title the WWE has to offer be both historic and underappreciated?
So goes the past 359 days and counting for AJ Styles. After the WWE briefly hyped a possible Survivor Series champion vs. champion match between WWE Champion Jinder Mahal and Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, Styles got his title shot on the Nov. 7, 2017 episode of SmackDown.
The rest is history and Styles is still making it. The Phenomenal One is reaching rarefied air with his current WWE title run and it should feel more important.
Styles and his current run with the belt, puts him as the 10th longest WWE titleholder in the championship’s 55 year history.
If Styles can get past Samoa Joe Friday at Crown Jewel, then he will likely pass Hulk Hogan’s 364 day reign as well as “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s 371 day reign with the title. From there, Styles would only be a week away from topping John Cena’s 381 day mark.
After that Styles would need to only surpass CM Punk’s 434 days with the title to enter the top six.
Thrown together at what felt like the last minute for Crown Jewel, it looks like Styles title defense versus Joe has more stakes than we originally thought.
Who wins on Friday at Crown Jewel, AJ Styles or Samoa Joe?
