WWE World Cup qualifying matches announced for SmackDown this week

While the women will be building to Evolution over the next month, the men’s side will be gearing up for the Crown Jewel event on Nov. 2 in Saudi Arabia. That event will host the first ever WWE World Cup which will be, per the early promotion for it, a tournament to determine who is “the best in the world.”

There’s no word on how big the field for said tournament will be, or even how many matches within the tournament will take place at Crown Jewel. We do know that qualifying matches are now being announced, starting with two on SmackDown Live this week.

Per WWE, Big Show will return to take on Randy Orton while Jeff Hardy will wrestle Samoa Joe.

Show had been a Raw wrestler but after taking time away, apparently he’s a free agent now. Or they don’t care much about the brand split at this point.

Either way, he’s back!

In addition to these two matches, a Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair SmackDown women’s title match is also set for the show.
