UPDATE: Now we know!
It’s been a week now since word first started getting around that John Cena is refusing to work the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. Since that time, WWE has promoted multiple shows — Monday Night Raw, SmackDown Live, and Evolution among them — and Cena was listed as participating in each one.
With the event just days away now — it’s scheduled for this Fri., Nov. 2 — if a move is going to be made, we can reasonably expect that move to come on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. PW Insider reports his status was “one of the big talks” backstage at Evolution, while Bobby Lashley is being mentioned as a replacement.
Of course, rumors persist that Lashley is dealing with a shoulder injury, but he hasn’t missed any television time and there has been no indication he will.
Either way, we’ll likely get an answer on what Cena’s status for the event is by the end of the evening. No one who reported on the story has backed off it and Cena’s typically cryptic social media presence continues to indicate he has no plans on making the trip to Saudi Arabia.
As always, stay tuned.
