WWE SmackDown Live results (Oct. 2, 2018): Becky Lynch’s surprise

WWE SmackDown Live comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Oct. 2, 2018) from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, featuring the go home show to the upcoming Super Show-Down event scheduled for this coming Saturday in Melbourne, Australia.

Advertised for tonight: Becky Lynch has a surprise in store, The New Day reveal a special recipe, and more!

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on USA. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

They say time has a way of healing, dries all the tears from your eyes. But darling it’s this empty feeling, my heart can’t disguise. After all that we’ve been through... I try my best but it’s no use, I guess I’ll keep on loving you and in the meantime, I’ll liveblog this here pro wrestling show.

The show opens with SmackDown general manager Paige in the ring.

She says when she took the job as GM she was told it’d be emotional and exhausting but she wasn’t expecting to deal with something like the dastardly act Samoa Joe committed last week. She rolls footage from last week so we can see the gravity of the situation before assuring us that the Styles family is okay and they sent the authorities as soon as the show went off the air.

Charges were filed against Joe for trespassing and Paige talked to WWE management, and they came to a unanimous decision that Samoa should be fired. But before she made her decision, she gave AJ Styles a call to personally tell him and make sure his family was okay, and she felt his pain and emotion while talking with him. Turns out AJ dropped the charges and he asked Paige not to fire him because termination would be letting him off easy.

Then he asked her permission to hand out the punishment to Joe, and therefore at Super Show-Down, he and Joe are still wrestling and AJ had another clip he wanted us to see. Styles is seated on his couch, and he apologizes for not being at the show tonight. Under the circumstances he just didn’t think he could perform tonight, and this is bigger than WWE, so he didn’t want to get emotional and do something he’d regret.

So he’s not leaving his house until he gets confirmation that Samoa is on the plane to Australia. He’s got four amazing kids that really need him right now, so he needs to be there, especially for Anney, his daughter, because for the past week she’s been waking up in the middle of the night looking under her bed and in her closet for Uncle Joe, like he’s some kind of boogeyman. (Boogeyman’s a different wrester entirely, AJ.)

Styles says this needs to end and Joe’s not coming back from the land down under and down under is exactly where Samoa will stay. He’s not putting his body into a casket and shoveling dirt on it, he’s talking about burying him alive.

Commentary hypes up Aiden English’s One Night in Milwaukee, footage explaining his claim that Lana got up to some business in Milwaukee, as well as Becky Lynch’s surprise.

Fabulous Truth make their entrance, they’ll be in action after the break.

Back from commercial in time for our other entrance.

Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega vs. Fabulous Truth (Carmella & R-Truth) (Mixed Tag Team Match)

Carmella and Vega to start, collar and elbow, side headlock, Zelina with a mat slam to counter, mocking moonwalk and Mella drops her with a dropkick and does her own moonwalk! Vega with a Tiger feint crucifix armbar in the ropes, a followup cover gets two, jawing and disdainful slaps and Carmella gets away for the tag! Almas with a knee, off the ropes, Truth snaps a Frankensteiner off!

Stinger splash reversed to a waistlock, Ron strugging, he pries Andrade’s hands apart, standing switch, shove off and Cien is tranquilo in the ropes! Fabulous Truth respond with the splits and Almas and Vega rush them but get sidestepped and slide out to the floor. TRUTHTV DANCE BREAK! DOUBLE HIGH FIVE! Truth chases Andrade around the ring and gets cut off when he goes back inside.

Whip out of the corner, sidestep the charge and Cien Flair Flips all the way to the floor as we go to break!

Back from commercial and Truth is fighting out of an armbar with body blows only to get clocked by a chop. Almas off the ropes and Ron catches him with a leg lariat! The women are fired up for tags, their partners crawling... TAG MADE! Carmella in hot with clotheslines, an atomic drop, smashing Zelina’s face into the turnbuckles and following it with a headscissors takeover out of the corner.

Bronco Buster connects, reverse STO... CIEN YANKS HER OFF THE COVER! He catches a kick but Truth comes over and pastes him with punches and clotheslines him to the floor... PLANCHA! Mella blocks the O’Connor roll but eats the double leg, manages to reverse...

Fabulous Truth win by submission with Code of Silence from Carmella on Zelina Vega.

Tye Dillinger runs into Paige backstage and tells her he wants Randy Orton. She says technically he beat Shinsuke Nakamura by disqualification last week, so... He cuts her off and says he’ll deal with him later, but he wants to take Orton now. Paige points out that Jeff Hardy’s been MIA since Hell in a Cell, and Tye says she knows this is something he has to do.

Paige says she’ll never understand men, but Dillinger has the match.

New Day make their entrance alongside Mr. Bootyworth and we go to break.

Back from commercial and New Day are in the ring with an assortment of pancakes and pancake accessories on a table in front of them.

Big E begins, saying they proudly present the pilot episode of New Day Cooks. Kofi Kingston has a word from our sponsors, and Big starts in on an ICOPRO commercial but Xavier Woods points out it’s 2018 and they have new sponsors. He talks about defending their tag titles in Australia, and Kofi admits they haven’t been able to hit against the Bar the last couple weeks, so they need a strong dose of positivity, which is why Mr. Bootyworth is here.

He’s the man responsible for cooking all the pancakes they disperse every week, and tonight is a very special night because he’s going to share the special recipe with all of us! E holds the mic up so his buttery voice can, uh, “penetrate our ears”--

Enter the Bar. Sheamus says it’s another week of New Day coming out and acting like children, and instead of preparing for their title match, they’re out here playing with food. Woods says this pilot is going straight to Guy Fieri and they’re ruining it, but Cesaro contends you can’t ruin something that’s already awful and they’re actually here to help.

Sheamus points out that Cesaro’s from Switzerland and that the Swiss know a thing or two about pastries, and back home Cesaro’s friends call him Chef. Sheamus then upends the table and we’ve got a braw! New Day take charge and nail Cesaro with a corner enzuigiri but before they can hit Midnight Hour Sheamus throws a bowl of flour into Kofi’s face! Double backbreaker!

The Bar drag E to his feet... SPIKE WHITE NOISE! Mr. Bootyworth stands alone in the corner, holding his bowl of batter, and Sheamus approaches him. He grabs him gently by the shoulder and walks him to the middle of the ring, where Cesaro takes the bowl. The Celtic Warrior comforts him, Cesaro tastes the batter and pours it into his hat... AND SHEAMUS CROWNS MR. BOOTYWORTH WITH THE HAT FULL OF BATTER!

CESARO DUMPS THE REST OF THE BOWL OUT OVER HIS HEAD! The Bar stand tall as Mr. Bootyworth slinks off in shame, covered in pancake batter.

Commentary hypes up Aiden English’s video again and Dillinger/Orton before tossing to a preview of WWE 2K19 that sends us to break.

Back from commercial we get a hype reel for tonight’s episode of Mixed Match Challenge and commentary gives us a crash course in how to watch the show.

Dillinger attacks Orton during his entrance and throws him in the ring! Randy cuts him off with a kick, uppercuts, but Tye is able to fight back with chops and clotheslines the Viper to the floor! Rolling out after him, Orton cuts him off and smashes his face into the announce table! Dillinger reverses the back suplex into the table and puts Randy into it before mounting him for repeated punches!

Orton passes him over the barricade, nails him with a right hand... DDT DRAPED OFF THE BARRICADE! The Viper takes the steps apart and removes the pad from the actual turnbuckle... OH GOD HE’S PUT DILLINGER’S FINGER THROUGH THE TURNBUCKLE AND HE’S WRENCHING IT BACK... HE’S BROKEN HIS DAMN FINGER IT’S ONLY GOING TO BE A PERFECT NINE NOW!

Orton stands on the steps as referees come down to check on Tye, clutching his finger in agony.

Shelton Benjamin is working out in the locker room when Miz rolls up on him and says he agrees with him, he’s overlooked. Shelton’s a world-class athlete who’s won a bunch of titles and he’s the real deal, so Miz made a call and got him a golden opportunity against Goat Boy. He asks if Benjamin’s gonna beat Daniel Bryan, and Shelton says he will, yes, but the A-Lister wants more than just a victory.

He wants him to hurt and maim Daniel Bryan, make a statement. Shelton’s statement is he’s been on the bench waiting for an opportunity to prove his greatness, and Bryan is just casualty number one. Miz says that’s what he wants to see and he thanks Benjamin and shakes his hand.

Aiden English is backstage talking to a crew member to make sure the production truck is prepared for what he has to show the WWE Universe and it needs to be in HD.

And on that technical programming note, we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a house ad for WWE Network’s current Wednesday night lineup.

Rusev Day make their entrance and we get a recap of Aiden English’s turn.

Rusev gets on the mic and says that two weeks ago English attacked him and ended their team and friendship before taking it even further with his video tape about his wife and Milwaukee, and that makes him want to tear his pale body apart. But first he wants Aiden to come out like a man and show the whole world his bogus evidence.

Enter Aiden English. He says the evidence is right here, but first he has some facts for us. He mentions that Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin, a state that borders not one but two Great Lakes. Rusev and Lana tell him to get on with it but he’s making a point that Milwaukee’s a city of culture that’s had many films and television shows filmed in it.

And tonight more than all of those they get the most anticipated premiere of the last decade, One Night in Milwaukee. He rolls the footage and it’s footage of himself, shirtless, warming up and workshopping his entrance song for Rusev that night when someone knocks on the door. It’s Lana, and he lets her in and offers to get a shirt but she says it’s okay, she won’t be long.

Lana has something to tell him that she’s been thinking about for a long time and it’s important to say it out loud. She wants him, and the tape freezes. Rusev shoots an accusatory look at Lana and Aiden says he’d love to show the rest but he can’t for legal reasons. He’s got an attractive offer from TMZ, see, and he wouldn’t want to... cheat on ‘em.

Rusev and Lana bicker and Lana protests that there’s more, which sends Rusev charging up the ramp after English!

Commentary tosses to a recap of the Brothers of Destruction / D-Generation X segment that closed Raw last night before hyping up Super Show-Down as a whole and shilling for the WWE Network.

Daniel Bryan makes his entrance to send us to break ahead of his match against Shelton Benjamin.

Back from commercial and Rusev is hunting Aiden English backstage when Lana rolls up to try and explain.

Rusev says they’re not doing this here and unzips his hoodie to stalk off and hunt English more.

Miz joins the commentary booth.

Daniel Bryan vs. Shelton Benjamin

Benjamin rushing in, whip across into a knee lift, another whip and another knee and he follows it up with a third, leaving Bryan clutching his ribs in agony! Fireman’s carry into a military press gutbuster! Stomping away, right hands, but Dan fires up in the corner and returns punches of his own! Smashing his face into the turnbuckles in passing, chest kicks, whip reversed, boot up on the charge!

Shelton with a pop-up drop for two and then into a sleeper hold to try and grind the American Dragon down. Bryan to his feet, axehandles, Benjamin with a knee, a whip, and Dan has the back body drop scouted, armbar takedown into the Yes! Lock but Shelton’s too close to the ropes! The Gold Standard rolls to the floor, sidesteps the baseball slide and throws Bryan into the apron and the barricade alternately!

Fireman’s carry, he drops Dan into the barricade and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Bryan’s up top for the diving headbutt... NOBODY’S HOME! Both men down and out, Benjamin recovers first and draws him up into a bear hug! I can hardly bear it! Dan out with elbows, uppercuts, off the ropes, Shelton catches him with the German suplex... NOPE! Fired up, Benjamin charges in but the American Dragon has his wits about him and gets the drop toehold!

Running dropkick gets a running knee, bridging German suplex... DANIEL BRYAN’S STILL FIGHTING! Drawing him up, setting him up top, climbing to join him, fireman’s carry but Bryan escapes with overhead elbows! Staggering him... AVALANCHE FRANKENSTEINER! Yes! Kicks, Shelton ducks the buzzsaw, jockeying for position and an enzuigiri drops him! Fired up, Miz gets up and Bryan punches him off the apron!

Benjamin takes the opportunity...

Shelton Benjamin wins by pinfall with Paydirt.

Miz rises to his feet touching his sore lip and stares Bryan down as he rolls to the apron. He charges in and rams knee after knee into Dan’s injured ribs! Following it up by ramming him into the announce desk repeatedly, fishhooking his nose, he throws Bryan back in the ring and stalks after him, pulling his sleeves up. He drags Dan up into the full nelson... SKULL-CRUSHING FINALE!

Commentary tosses to a recap of Dogs of War beating the Shield down last night and hypes up Asuka vs. Peyton Royce before sending us to break.

Back from commercial, Naomi is in the ring to introduce a video package for WWE’s partnership with Susan G. Komen for breast cancer awareness.

Once it finishes, she introduces Dana Warrior, Dr. Toni Storm-Dickerson, fundraiser Janine Wolf, and breast cancer survivor Lt. Caprice Massey to celebrate them and exhort folks to support the campaign.

The Iconic Duo make their entrance and get a picture-in-picture promo saying they can’t lose in Australia and have a victory dance planned out already, but we go to break before the match can begin.

Asuka vs. Peyton Royce

Royce is in control, raining forearms down and hitting a running kick off the ropes. Another big elbow, off the ropes, Asuka recovers but Peyton cuts her off with a kick. She catches a second, cover gets two, Royce catches a kick into the Gory Neckbreaker... NOPE! Asuak up top, missile dropkick comes up empty and Peyton grabs a reverse chinlock, trying to grind the Empress of Tomorrow into dust.

Another kick caught into a schoolboy, a clothesline follows it but she still can’t put Asuka away and goes back to the reverse chinlock. Asuka to her feet, backing Royce into the corner, whip reversed, up top and the missile dropkick hits this time and gets two! Waistlock, deadlift, standing switch, Asuka with a bodyscissors into the ankle lock!

Peyton gets the ropes with the help of Billie Kay but Naomi takes care of that, Asuka readjusts...

Asuka wins by submission with the Asuka Lock.

Commentary hypes Becky Lynch’s surprise up and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get another hype reel for tonight’s Mixed Match Challenge.

In the arena, Becky Lynch makes her entrance.

She talks about how six weeks ago she stopped waiting, started taking, and became the best thing about SmackDown. She runs the women’s division and has made it the most relevant thing in all of WWE, because she learned that being kind and patient gets you nothing but stabbed in the back and treated for a fool, but no, not anymore, because now she’s relentless and strikes early and often, like the video package she rolls covering her feud with Charlotte Flair.

Time and time again she’s proven that she owns Flair, but it’s funny, because still the champ can’t get the respect that she deserves. Where’s her magazine covers and her new action figure? Instead she has to suffer the indignity of seeing the woman she beat pose for covers and press releases, but come Saturday she’s gonna prove that it’s her face that deserves to be on the magazine covers and billboards and to be the face of the company.

And if no one will give it to her, she’ll do it herself. In fact she went through the trouble of designing a new poster for Super Show-Down, which, when she unveils it, is the picture of her standing triumphant on a fallen Charlotte and holding her title high.

Enter Charlotte Flair, fighting mad and charging up the ramp! Lynch is right on her with forearms, a kick to the midsection but when she goes for the armbar Flair evades and hits the spear! Charlotte points at the poster... EXPLODER SUPLEX THROUGH THE POSTER! THE FIGURE FOUR IS ON AND SHE FALLS OFF THE APRON FOR ADDED PRESSURE!

Returning to the ring, she lays Becky out with a boot and stands tall over the fallen champion.

That’s the show, folks.
