Mae Young Classic results, live blog (Oct. 10, 2018): Round two, feat. Kaitlyn vs. Mia Yim

Here's a place to follow along with the action and comment on the sixth episode of the 2018 Mae Young Classic (MYC) Women’s Tournament during its premiere, Weds., Oct. 10 at 9PM Eastern time on WWE Network.

Round two wraps up tonight, and the main event will feature the tourney’s veteran comeback story against a woman who was eliminated in this round last year when former Divas champ Kaitlyn battles the newly signed Mia Yim.

Early favorite Io Shirai’s seemingly easy path to the quarterfinals continues when she faces Zeuxis, and Deonna Purrazzo & Xia Li will square off in a battle of Performance Center regulars. Finally, Tegan Nox’s bittersweet run continues with a bout against indie legend Nicole Matthews.

You can also check out a complete bracket for the entire tournament here. Stella Cheeks will be along with a review of the episode a little later.

NOTE: Spoilers are out there for these pre-taped broadcasts (including here), but many Cagesiders don't partake. If you are going to post or discuss spoilers for this show before they happen, or results of future shows, please use the spoiler bar in your comment.

Enjoy the show!

There’s a magical sound slidin’ over the ground, makin’ it shiver and shake. And a permanent cry fallin’ out of the sky, slippery and sly like a snake. With a delicate move, kind of shifty and smooth, a shadow has covered the light. Then a beam in the shade from a silvery blade has shattered the edge of the night. I know she waits below only to rise on command, but me, I’m here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a video package recapping last week’s half of the second round before commentary runs tonight’s matches down, and thence to the intro video.

Our first match is Io Shirai vs. Zeuxis, so of course that gets the video package treatment.

Jessamyn Duke, Marina Shafir, and Shayna Baszler are shown at ringside.

Io Shirai vs. Zeuxis (Mae Young Classic 2018 Second Round Match)

Collar and elbow, struggling, Zeuxis powers Shirai into the ropes and breaks at referee Danilo Anfibio’s behest. Back to the lockup, Io with a whip into an arm drag, drop down, off the ropes, dropkick and the luchadora goes flying to the floor! Throwing her back inside, Shirai goes to springboard but gets plucked out of the air with an elbow and sent to the floor with a dropkick!

Io’s arm bothering her, she rolls back in and Zeuxis pounds, kicking the arm and wrenching it over the ropes! Snapmare into a short armscissor, Shirai tries to roll out of it but she’s blocked right back into it! Back to stomps, putting boots to her in the corner, off the ropes, corner double knees set up a cover... NOPE! Io throwing forearms, a kick to the arm staggers her but she’s able to slip under Zeuxis and trip her up.

A dropkick puts her in the corner, stepping on her, setting up the handstand knees and corner double knees of her own! Zeuxis hanging onto the bottom rope, she rolls out to the floor for a breather, Io runs the ropes... SUICIDE CROSSBODY! Back in the ring, armbar, countered into a half nelson driver... NO! Zeuxis up top for the moonsault but nobody’s home!

Shirai lands a dropkick and heads up top but Zeuxis pops up and cuts her off! Jockeying for position, Spanish Fly blocked... IO GETS AN AVALANCHE FRANKENSTEINER! SHOTGUN KNEES TO THE BACK OF THE SKULL! HEADED BACK UP TOP...

Io Shirai wins by pinfall with the moonsault.

Deonna Purrazzo vs. Xia Li gets the video package treatment.

Deonna Purrazzo vs. Xia Li (Mae Young Classic 2018 Second Round Match)

Circling, collar and elbow, Li flips out into a wristlock, reversed, Purrazzo with a side headlock takeover, headscissors reversal from Xia. Deonna with a World of Sport headstand escape and a curtsey, drop toehold on the charge, into La Casita for one, looking for the Fujiwara armbar, denied, Li with leg kicks, backfist combo, off the ropes with a kick to the midsection and a leg drop into the splits!

Elbow drop gets two, whip reversed, Xia up top for the missile dropkick... NOPE! Purrazzo with a dropkick to the face for two of her own, hard strikes to the elbow into a short-arm lariat for two more! Trading strikes, the Virtuosa off the ropes with a knee, a Russian legsweep, takedown into the armbar but Li reverses into a pin... STILL NO!

Divorce Court from Deonna into a pin, only two, she applies a top wristlock and wrenches it in only for Xia to sling her off. Pop-up countered into a dropkick and both women are down and out! Trading vicious chops as they rise, shifting to forearms, Purrazzo catches a kick, Li backflips out, into a roundhouse kick... NOT ENOUGH! The Virtuosa dragging herself up in the corner while Xia digs deep, sidestep the charge, Li off the second... DEONNA CATCHES HER INTO THE FUJIWARA! SHE SHIFTS AROUND...

Deonna Purrazzo wins by pinfall with an arm-trap Fujiwara armbar.

Nicole Matthews vs. Tegan Nox is up next, with all the appropriate bells and whistles.

Nicole Matthews vs. Tegan Nox (Mae Young Classic 2018 Second Round Match)

Circling, Matthews fakes her out by suggesting her brace is loose and gets in there with the cheap shots! Nox fires back, Nicole rolls to the floor, Tegan off the ropes... CUT OFF WITH A RIGHT HAND! Matthews gets her up in the ropes, chest kicks, firing away, back inside for the cover but it’s only good for two! Drawing her up, big chops, short whip into a dropkick, again only two!

Kicks to the back, jawing at her, Nox with the snapmare into a kick to the back of her own, Nicole turns it right back around with a snapmare and a kick of her own into overhead elbows! Japanese stranglehold applied, following with a short-arm lariat and a northern lights suplex into the bridge... NO GOOD! Picking the legs, Tegan kicks her away, forearms and uppercuts on her feet, primal scream, off the ropes... CAUGHT INTO THE DOUBLE LEG!

Nox fights out, small package, headbutt connects... charging senton in the corner! Her knee buckles but she rallies...

Yim into the corner, Kaitlyn charges in, cannonball, cover for one, following it up with a bodyscissors. Mia struggling, turning it into a pin, two can play at that game but neither of them can get to three.

Yim out by grinding her elbow into knee, to the floor, Kaitlyn baseball slide... MIA CAUGHT HER AND SLAMMED HER KNEE INTO THE APRON! Hamstring kicks, DDT the leg, only two! Punching the knee, Kaitlyn dodges and Yim’s bad hand hits the mat hard! Stepover wristlock, wrenching at the wrist and fingers, torquing the hand, slamming it into the mat! Going for a slam, her leg gives out and Mia gets a cover for two!

A kick gets another two, Kaitlyn up and at ‘em with forearms, an elbow wipes Yim out, scoop and a slam, another slam, Mia begging off, shaking her injured hand, she throws a punch, scoop into a spin-out side slam... NO GOOD! Yim gets Sole Food... ALSO NO! Waistlock, Kaitlyn blocks by hitting the bad hand, off the ropes, spear... MIA KICKED OUT!

Commentary hypes up our quarterfinals as Mia celebrates with her hand limp at her waist.

A video package recaps tonight’s matches.
