The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Royal Rumble event set to take place on Sun., Jan. 28, 2018, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the company's annual beginning of the year showcase featuring its most popular gimmick match. It will crown the next number one contender to either the Raw (Universal) or SmackDown Live (World) championship. And this year, the women get a Rumble too!
We're still three weeks away from the gates opening in the City of Brotherly Love but it looks like we have the complete card.
- Royal Rumble (Men)
Everyone who has declared for the match so far:
- John Cena
- Finn Balor
- Randy Orton
- Shinsuke Nakamura
- Elias
- Baron Corbin
- Royal Rumble (Women)
It was announced just last week that this will indeed feature 30 wrestlers and have all the same rules of the men’s match. Here is everyone who has declared so far:
- Asuka
- Ruby Riott
- Liv Morgan
- Sarah Logan
- Sasha Banks
- Bayley
- Naomi
- Natalya
- Paige
- Sonya Deville
- Mandy Rose
- Tamina Snuka
- Lana
- Carmella
- Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman vs. Kane (Universal championship)
They booked a Strowman vs. Kane top contender match but when that ended in a double countout and the two started arguing with Lesnar over a title shot, they were both granted one. That’s a strange thing, in its own way, awarding two wrestlers a title shot they couldn’t outright earn with a victory, but whatever. The program hasn’t featured much other than the prospect of a lot of beef throwing itself at itself.
- AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (WWE championship)
It’s not exactly clear what the handicap stipulation means here but the WWE.com preview makes it sound like Owens and Zayn would share the WWE title if one of the two pins Styles. Expect some clarity on that in the coming weeks.
- Finals of US title tournament
They started with eight wrestlers but the field is down to the following match-ups:
Bobby Roode vs. Zack Ryder or Mojo Rawley
Xavier Woods vs. Jinder Mahal
The winners of those matches will meet at this show to determine the next United States champion. This was made necessary by Dolph Ziggler vacating the title.
Rumors suggest this could end up being the entire line-up.
