The Dudley Boyz are headed to the WWE Hall of Fame

D-Von! Get the tuxes!

As first announced by CBS Sports, Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley are the second act announced for induction into WWE’s Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018. The 18 time tag champs will join a group headlined by Goldberg being honored in New Orleans on Friday, April 6 - two nights before WrestleMania 34.

The kayfabe brothers rose to fame in ECW after forming for the promotion in 1996, and “extreme” has remained a staple of their act ever since. They helped bring the Tables, Ladders and Chairs match into existence after joining the then-WWF in memorable showdowns with Edge and Christian and The Hardyz.

After winning 18 tag titles around the world, D-Von retired to work as an agent for WWE, while Bubba (aka Bully Ray) has gone on to work for Ring of Honor and as a radio broadcaster on Sirius XM’s Busted Open. Both returned last Monday (Jan. 22) for Raw 25 in Brooklyn.

And now they’ll be saying “WASSUP?” in The Big Easy as they enter the Hall of Fame.

Both men commented to CBS on the announcement. Said Bubba (real name Mark LoMonaco):

“The legacy of the Dudley Boyz is really the last of the Mohicans. We are the last, legitimate, great tag team that you most likely will ever see; the most old school tag team that there is. I don’t think you will ever see a tag team go on to accomplish what we have accomplished, whether that’s in the WWE or any place else. We really are the last of many, many generations of great tag teams.”

Added D-Von (born Devon Hughes):

“The great thing about us is we didn’t take no for an answer. We just went out there and did it when nobody thought we could. That was the biggest thing that Bubba and I had to face in our career because, back in ECW, we weren’t really supposed to be an act to be reckoned with.

Bubba and I clicked on so many levels when we got together and knew that we could hang with the big boys if we got the opportunity to go to WWE. When we did, we just went from there and were on fire. We just knew that if the WWE would let us be us, we would be extremely good and be able to accomplish exactly what we wanted to do -- and that’s be the best tag team in the history of the business.”

It doesn’t look like another member of the Dudley clan will be joining them, but the Boyz were quick to shout out Spud in the interview. Of the man D-Von calls their “guinea pig”, Bubba said, “He was instrumental in helping us get to where we were because we beat the piss out of Spike for years and years and years.”

Maybe Spike will get to induct his “brothers” - hopefully without taking a beating.

Congrats to The Dudleyz!
