Sasha Banks is ready for women’s tag team titles

WWE.com

From her interview with Sky Sports:

“I would love that. I think we have enough women on the roster now to actually have a women’s tag division. We’ve been given multiple storylines but at the same time, it’s very hard to accomplish something if you’re not actually fighting for anything. Only one woman can go after the women’s championship and I think if we had tag team championships we’d be able to create way more interesting storylines. We have tag matches all the time, every single week, so I say why not get a championship involved in that?”

While WWE likes to pat itself on the back for how far they’ve come as far as booking its women’s division, such as putting them in all the same match types, the men are still dominating as far as television time and meaningful storylines. Sasha mentions tag matches every week and that’s more a function of ensuring as many women get TV time as possible than a legitimate reason for booking tag matches.

Hell, there was a time SmackDown was managing to book its entire women’s division in one segment each week.

The cure for this is to finally give the women more than just a segment or two, of course, and to do that they’re going to need storytelling tools. Tag team titles would give them that, and therefore even more reason to give them more television time.

Here’s to hoping it happens sooner rather than later.
