SmackDown tag champion Jey Uso (real name Joshua Samuel Fatu) was arrested Sunday, Jan. 14 in Hidalgo, Texas and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). He was released the same day under his own recognizance.
At this time, those are the only details available. A Twitter user (@SliceWrestling) first posted the news earlier this afternoon, and Pro Wrestling Sheet confirmed the arrest.
The Usos defended their tag titles at Sunday’s house show in Hidalgo, but there is no word whether the arrest occurred before the show (in the early morning hours) or after the event.
Jey and his brother Jimmy are scheduled to defend their tag titles at Royal Rumble against Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin in a two-out-of-three-falls match. Without additional information, it’s impossible to even guess how this arrest would effect Uso’s WWE status and booking plans. We may learn more this evening (Jan. 16) when we see if he’s on SmackDown from Laredo.
Jimmy is scheduled to take part in Mixed Match Challenge with Naomi, but their match is not this evening.
More as we have it.
