If he keeps adding things to his schedule, John Cena is going to go from a Brock Lesnar-like part-timer to a Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-type special attraction.
Ferdinand and Daddy’s Home 2 come out this Fall, and he’ll certainly be on a press junket promoting his title role in the former. Cena has filming to do on the Transformers prequel Bumblebee, as it’s scheduled for release in Summer of 2018.
Now, according to Deadline, he’s attached to star opposite Silicon Valley and The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani in a buddy cop flick from Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer.
The movie doesn’t have a name yet, and the reports don’t even have much of a synopsis at this point. The script is being written by Murray Miller, who’s producing with Fleischer and David Bernad. Cena worked with Miller and Bernad on the HBO mockumentary Tour De Pharmacy.
Films are one thing, but with side-projects such as Tour De Pharmacy, or time spent hosting Today, or a possible third season of American Grit... it’s hard to see how even a guy known for hustle will have much time for something he’s admitted he physically can’t handle as much of as he used to.
