Braun Strowman, who has been booked dominantly for pretty much the entirety of his main roster run, finally got a singles match for the Universal championship against Brock Lesnar in the main event of tonight’s (Sun., Sept. 24, 2017) WWE No Mercy pay-per-view (PPV) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
And he lost.
They opened much like they did when Goldberg beat Lesnar. Strowman no sold a German suplex, followed it up with a chokeslam, and then came back with a running power slam. Brock kicked out of the ensuing pinfall attempt, however, so this would be no repeat.
Strowman’s dominance of Lesnar continued throughout much of the match, though Brock slowed him down with a kimura that ended only with a rope break. Then, just as he promised, he took the big man to Suplex City.
Before he could get to the F-5, Strowman countered and hit multiple running power slams. They didn’t matter. Brock kicked out. When he finally did hit the F-5, it was enough to do the job.
Brock Lesnar wins, with just one F-5.
