WWE Starrcade is happening

WWE.com

Didn’t take long for the reported to become a reality. As Pro Wrestling Sheet broke yesterday (Sept. 17), WWE will be using some of the event names they acquired along with WCW for upcoming shows.

What kind of show isn’t exactly clear. But in announcing WWE Starrcade, they are taking the old Jim Crockett Productions supershow back to its roots - Nov. 25 at Greensboro Coliseum.

In addition to moving it back to the building which hosted the first four Starrcade shows in the mid-1980s, WWE’s also returned to a date close to Thanksgiving. The 25th is the Saturday night after the big U.S. November holiday, but also less than a week after Survivor Series - leading us to assume this is likely a branded house show and not a pay-per-view (PPV) or Network special.

We’ll find out more on that front later. For now, we know this will use the SmackDown roster (plus the home state Hardy Boyz, per WWE’s event page) and that tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 29.

Cards are, of course, subject to change, but early reporting on that from the venue and North Carolina media includes some curious items, such as the presence of someone named Ricky “Seamboat”...

And the promise of “a United States Championship Triple Threat match between Smackdown Tag Team Champions New Day and The USOS.”

Details, schm-etails... Starrcade is back, baby!

UPDATE: WWE’s got a full write up of the show on their website here. It confirms the card in the Coliseum’s tweet (minus unfortunate typos in names) and adds a Breezango vs Aiden English & Mike Kanellis w/ Maria Kanellis match. There is no mention of the show being broadcast, so it appears to be a stacked house show.
