Jon Jones is slowing down the hype train for a UFC fight against Brock Lesnar

After their post-UFC 214 call and response, talk of a Jon Jones vs. Brock Lesnar mixed martial arts superfight heated up pretty quickly.

But even as some outlets proclaimed Brock’s return to the Octagon was “imminent”, the necessary milestones and dates for Lesnar to go from pro wrestler to shoot fighter didn’t seem to point to a bout being scheduled any time in the near future.

And during the above interview with Michael Strahan on Good Morning America today (Aug. 7), UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jones responded to a question about his Lesnar shout out in a way that made “imminent” sound like too strong a word to be using about a potential showdown with Brock:

“I don’t know. I think it may be a while before Brock Lesnar is eligible to fight. Right now I’m just kind of waiting to hear from the UFC, and some different ideas outside of him.”

Keep hope alive, but probably expect Bones to defend that Light Heavyweight strap before he runs into the Beast Incarnate.

Now what does a de-escalation of hype for Lesnar/Jones do for speculation about the outcome of SummerSlam’s Fatal 4Way Universal title match where Brock will defend against Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman?
