Report: WWE won’t bring back Rey Mysterio

Just last month, SI.com passed along word that Rey Mysterio was negotiating with WWE about a possible return to the company after many years away.

Not anymore.

Indeed, SI.com passed along a new report today Vince McMahon is “not interested in working with Mysterio’s representation, specifically Konnan,” and therefore the promotion will not continue to pursue a new deal.

This, of course, means GFW — assuming Lucha Underground is out of the running, pending its fourth season — becomes the front runner for Mysterio’s services. Considering his name, star power, and ability to keep himself out of the headlines, he seems like a real candidate to become the top guy with that promotion.

Assuming they can reach a deal.

For now, we’ll have to wait a little longer for Mysterio to return to WWE. He’ll almost surely be back someday, just not anytime soon.
