Former World Heavyweight champion Dolph Ziggler hasn’t had a match on SmackDown Live since the 4th of July battle royal to determine the #1 contender for the U.S. title.
While he was gone, there were rumors he would be “repackaged”. It’s an idea Dolph recently shot down in an interview with Channel Guide magazine:
“There is all this talk out there about me being repackaged. I don’t think I’m doing that.”
The Show-Off showed up on the blue brand last night (Aug. 22), so we can judge for ourselves. And it looks like the answer is... not really? Maybe?
Ziggler is still complaining in a ‘reality’ era way about being screwed when he insinuates to Dasha Fuentes that he’s unhappy his big comeback moment is a backstage interview. This is something he’s done as a heel and a face, so not much new there.
He then mocks a bunch of gimmicks or parts of other wrestlers’ acts he thinks are flamboyant - like singing, playing the guitar, dancing, having a spotlight, wearing a robe... you get the drill... saying he’s going to take a page from those books when he returns next week.
So, we’ll have to wait and see what he comes out with on Tuesday. In the meantime, running down other people on the roster just seems like a new way to complain about being unappreciated, which is what Dolph/his character has done for a long time now.
Unless he’s escorted to the ring next week by a glow-in-the-dark woman.
Now THAT would be a repackaging.
