Baron Corbin’s had a bad week.
The man who failed his Money in the Bank cash-in attempt at the end SmackDown LIVE tried to change his fortunes in the opening match of SummerSlam. And it was a chance for revenge against John Cena, the man who helped cost him his WWE title match against Jinder Mahal.
Cena’s game plan was to take advantage of The Lone Wolf being “shook” by the events of last Tuesday, mocking Corbin and making him give chase.

It didn’t work out too well. Cena suffered an extended beatdown from the enraged NXT alum in the early going as Corbin sought to embarrass the 16 time WWE champ.

It was an assault which included a choke slam backbreaker, which was pretty brutal looking...

... but of course Cena wouldn’t give up. And Corbin’s trash talking during his extended assault fired up Big Match John, too. He’d eventually nail a big clothesline and get former Mr. Money in the Bank up for an AA, and that was all she wrote.
Cena gets a rare win at The Biggest Party of the Summer, and an early night off to go have dinner in New York with Nikki Bella. For Corbin... it’s back to the drawing board.
His bad week just got worse.
