Enzo Amore suspended above the ring in a Shark Cage Match
Big Cass vs. Big Show
The Smacktalker Skywalker likes having giant friends. So when one kicked him to the curb, he got another one. Now he’s getting locked up while they fight.
The Road to SummerSlam
It was a mystery which capitivated fans on Monday nights, and it lead to a well executed if not that shocking reveal that Big Cass would go to pretty much any length to get away from Enzo Amore.
You wouldn’t think it would be that difficult for a seven-footer to handle a diminutive motormouth, and it wasn’t. Cass handily won their one-on-one affairs in the wake of the reveal, and announced his intention to go after bigger fish in the Universal title and main event scene.
But Zo made a new friend during the drama which surrounded Cass’ spree of backsage assaults - Big Show. And Show doesn’t like bullies. So when the Queens’ native continued to beat on Amore after a victory on Raw, the Worldest Largest Athlete officially got involved.
Cass got the best of Show that night, but the next two times they faced off, Enzo’s involvement created enough of a distraction that he ended up taking a Knockout Punches from the former WWE and World champ.
For that reason, Cass pleaded with General Manager Kurt Angle to remove his former tag partner from the equation. And since WWE recently dug the shark cage gimmick out of mothballs for Chris Jericho and Paul Ellering, they figured they’d use it here.
Amore’s not the only one who’s made some new “friends” though. Cass made it worth Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows’ while to help him with his giant problem, so last Monday, that trio made it a little harder for Show to use his finisher, crushing his right hand in the cage door.
He’s still selling the damaged paw while doing PR in New York this week, so it looks like Cass won’t have to deal with Zo or Show’s big right hand in Brooklyn on Sunday.
What’s at stake?
Cass’ viablity as a singles star. He’s been getting deafening boos of late, but it unclear if that response is only for this angle (or ironic). If he’s going to even get a chance to see if he can hold onto that heat when he’s not facing his former little buddy, he’ll need a win here.
The rumors of backstage heat on Enzo add an interesting wrinkle to this match and feud, too. Could this be the last we see of Amore before he heads to NXT? Is he destined for the cruiserweight division? Or is he popular enough to survive dressing in the hallway?
And then there’s the future Hall of Famer, with the clock ticking on his stated 2018 retirement plans. Putting over a new giant for Vince McMahon seems like a good use of his time, but what do we know? This may only be one part of a larger plan - for Cass and Show.
We’ll know more after SummerSlam, and Cageside Seats will be here to tell you happened - and what we think it means.
