NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III match card & rumors (SPOILERS)

WWE.com

NXT spent this evening (July 12) taping television leading into its next WWE Network special, Takeover: Brooklyn III... as usual scheduled for the night before SummerSlam - Sat., Aug. 19, 2017, at Barclays Center. With just a little more than month to go before that event, we figured matches would be made at this taping - and we were right.

Two title bouts were booked, the direction for the third looked clear and a few more matches took shape... even if we’re not yet quite sure how some of these rivalries will be presented in New York.

Here are the ones officially announced, based on spoilers (get them in full here):

- Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Roode (c) for the NXT championship

This is the formally booked match-up, with McIntyre earning the spot with a win over Killian Dain at the last taping. The usual William Regal-moderated face-off occurred tonight, but Roderick Strong got involved and found himself mixed up with both Roode and Drew before the night was through. It’s possible this becomes a Triple Threat via a backstage segment before these episodes make it to air.

- Asuka (c) vs. Ember Moon for the Women’s title

This has looked to be the direction for a while and they appear to be sticking with it. Ember challenged the Empress after a win, and then hit her with the Eclipse in a follow-up segment, leading to Regal drawing up the contract. A signing and one of those Asuka promos where she screams in Japanese sealed the deal.

Then there are several matches it looks like they put together, but which weren’t explicitly booked in the arena tonight:

- Authors of Pain (c) vs. SAnitY for the tag team championship

Eric Young’s charges actually kickstarted this on the episode which aired on WWE Network July 12, and EY returned to help Dain, Alexander Wolfe and Nikki Cross to continue tormenting Akam and Rezar throughout the taping. Is this a face turn for Paul Ellering’s monsters? Or just lawful evil vs. chaotic evil?

- Kassius Ohno vs. Hideo Itami and/or Aleister Black vs. reDRagon

The tension between Itami and Ohno led to a match, but wasn’t resolved due to more anger management issues from Hideo. But he also found himself on the wrong side of Kassius’ indie tag partner Mr. Black tonight. Meanwhile, Aleister has been the first opponent both Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly (who debuted on Wednesday) have faced in NXT. Lots of possibilities here...

- Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Johnny Gargano

Mr. Wrestling wants on the Brooklyn card. After picking up a win with Thea Trinidad by his side, Almas said he’d be Johnny’s huckleberry.

- Ruby Riot vs. Peyton Royce

After the Punk Rock Ragdoll took out Pey’s Iconic partner Billie Kay, Royce had not nice things to say about Ruby. Of course, this could end up being taped before TakeOver for the episode after, as seems that’s PeyKay’s place on the NXT depth chart.

Doesn’t look like the United Kingdom title will be represented this time, but maybe a Mae Young Classic teaser (Kairi Sane... please)? We’ll see what gets added or finalized via backstage or online segments over the next couple weeks.

What do you think of this (potential) line-up? What else do you think gets added?
