WWE kicked off the pay-per-view (PPV) portion of tonight’s (Sun., June 4, 2017) Extreme Rules event at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland with Dean Ambrose putting his Intercontinental championship on the line against The Miz (with Maryse). The added stipulation?
Ambrose could lose the title even via disqualification.
Despite that, Booker T spent the early part of the match claiming there were no disqualifications while Miz and Ambrose wrestled a regular match. None of it made much sense. There was one point Miz tried to incite a DQ but otherwise, he just sort of went about business as usual.
It wasn’t until much later in the match that they remembered the stipulation, with Miz pulling off the top turnbuckle and Ambrose nearly driving him into it but stopping at the last second.
Not long after, Miz and Maryse concocted a dumb plan where she slapped him, in full view of the referee. He played like he was going to disqualify Ambrose for it but ultimately tossed Maryse. She refused to go to the back and while he was distracted with her, Miz threw Ambrose into him. When he turned around, he again threatened to call for the disqualification. Again, however, he did not. He did, however, distract Ambrose long enough for Miz to hit him with a Skull Crushing Finale.
The referee immediately jumped in to count the pinfall and award Miz the Intercontinental championship.
