NXT is back at their home base of Full Sail Live, where they'll tape matches and segments for their regular Wednesday night series on WWE Network.
Tonight’s show (June 23) will continue to build to August’s TakeOver: Brooklyn III. Or maybe it will just fill the gap before that build starts in earnest at the next taping? There are at least two title matches taking place, and one of them should be the blow-off of a feud.
Men’s champ Bobby Roode battles Roderick Strong, and the undefeated Asuka has no advantage in her Last Woman Standing match against SAnitY’s Nikki Cross. Will we not only get these showdowns, but also learn who the winners might face on the eve of SummerSlam? Will Triple H have any surprises up his sleeve?
We’ll know more when results start rolling in from Winter Park, Florida. We'll be updating those here live, starting at the scheduled 6:30PM Eastern bell time:
- Triple H comes out during the pre-show commentator entrances and personally introduces Mauro Ranallo to the commentary desk.
- Bianca Bel Air (formerly Bianca Blair) over Aliyah, qualifying for the Mae Young Classic.
- Velveteen Dream over Ho Ho Lun.
- Hideo Itami vs. Oney Lorcan gets called off after Itami got busted open early. It’s bad enough they have to change the mat.
- Vanessa Borne (formerly Danielle Kamela) over indie wrestler Jayme Jameson (billed as Jayme Hachey), qualifying for the Mae Young Classic.
- Johnny Gargano comes down for a promo. He says he’s missed being able to come down to the ring, that feeling that something special was happening... and then Chicago happened. He didn’t see it coming, but he’s not here to dwell on the past and he’s still standing. He promises he’ll be at TakeOver: Brooklyn no matter what and leaves with a new theme song.
- Hideo Itami over Oney Lorcan. After the match, Itami calls Kassius Ohno out, but before they can talk SAnitY attacks both men! They’re here to end forced friendship and lies, but Eric Young is off working on some kind of master plan.
- No Way Jose over Cezar Bononi by knockout. Post-match, Andrade “Cien” Almas and Thea Trinidad make their way to the ring, Almas putting boots to Bononi, but No Way comes back and makes the save.
- Ember Moon over Ruby Riot.
- SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain) over Hideo Itami & Kassius Ohno after some friction between the babyfaces lead Itami to refuse to tag out.
- Oney Lorcan over Danny Burch. After the match they shake hands and Burch wants a rematch.
- Bobby Roode (c) over Roderick Strong to retain the NXT Championship. At one point Roddy got End of Heartache off and a pin was counted, but Roode’s foot was under the ropes and the match was restarted.
- BOBBY FISH IS HERE! AND HE’S WRESTLING ALEISTER BLACK!
- Aleister Black over Bobby Fish.
- Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) (c) over Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight) to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship.
- SAnitY come down after the match to stare the Authors down.
- A #1 contender’s match for the NXT Championship between Drew McIntyre and Killian Dain is announced for later in the taping.
- Jeet Rama over Jonny Vandal.
- Drew McIntyre over Killian Dain to become #1 contender to the NXT Championship.
- Asuka (c) over Nikki Cross to retain the NXT Women’s Championship in a Last Woman Standing Match that featured all the plunder you’d imagine and a superplex off a ladder through a table.
There you have it, folks
A couple weeks of NXT television to get us ever closer to TakeOver: Brooklyn. Like what you see?
