Roman Reigns kicked off this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw with the “major announcement regarding SummerSlam” that WWE began promoting one week ago. He got right down to it:
“Some of y’all may not like this, some of y’all may love this, but when it comes down to it I can not be beaten one-on-one. It’s the truth — ask Bray Wyatt; ask Finn Balor; ask my little brother, Seth Rollins; ask Braun Strowman, I put him out of commission. And let’s not forget, I main evented my third WrestleMania in a row. And that’s where I retired The Undertaker. I respect him, and he respects me because I beat him.
“So this is the plan. After the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, I don’t care who wins. I don’t care if it’s Brock Lesnar and I don’t care if it’s that guy they call Joe. Because at SummerSlam, I’m the number one contender for the Universal championship. Would you like to know why? Because this is my yard, and I make the rules around here.”
Samoa Joe interrupted at this point to say Reigns has never beaten him, he’s the true number one contender, and he’ll be winning the Universal title from Brock Lesnar. Roman said he’ll never call Joe “Samoa,” instead “you’ll always be just Joe” and that led to a fight.
It was a good fight.
Things are good.
