The Match Up:
SmackDown Live’s Women’s Champion, Naomi, takes on long time manager/valet turned pro wrestler, Lana, in the challenger’s SmackDown Live in-ring debut with the championship on the line. This will go down Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, which takes place in the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO.
The Road to Money in the Bank:
Naomi became SDL’s Women’s Champion for the second time in her hometown of Orlando, FL at WrestleMania 33. Shortly after this, she joined forces with Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch to battle the Welcoming Committee and rarely defended her title. When the entire division was put into the first ever women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match, Naomi appeared to be without an opponent to challenge her. And then this happened:
Lana would go on to interfere and cost Naomi a win in a six women’s tag match. This prompted the champion to demand to face Lana for the title. Shane accepted and made the match for MITB.
Then, last week, this happened:
Yeah . . .
The Stakes:
The SDL Women’s Championship is on the line. Also, my interest in the blue brand’s women’s division has not been the greatest since WrestleMania. The same can be said for me about RAW, honestly, but at least there is no Lana on RAW to kill my interest d-e-a-d if she somehow becomes champion this Sunday.
I have zero interest in Lana as a character or wrestler and hope that Naomi beats her in less than a minute.
