Ever since they parted ways with Impact Wrestling, there have been numerous reports about Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis’ future. Most have said the couple was headed to WWE, and according to PWInsider (subscription required), that’s not only true, but their debut is imminent.
The married duo will be traveling with SmackDown this weekend, per Insider’s report, and are set for a television debut next Tuesday. That they’re on the road with the blue brand as they get set for a pay-per-view this Sunday (June 18) in St. Louis certainly means they could show up earlier than next week. The fact the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match currently only has five announced participants - when the men’s version has six - has some fans speculating Maria could enter the mix.
Kanellis has mostly served as a manager-type of late during her Ring of Honor/New Japan and TNA runs, but did wrestle for much of her 2004 - 2010 run with WWE.
Bennett has never been with WWE, but at approximately 6’ 1” and 230 pounds, he’s someone who’s long been seen as a good fit for the sports entertainment giant. There’s been more than a few questions among fans about where he fits in an already crowded scene on SmackDown, however.
Previous rumors/reports stated Mike & Maria signed with WWE this past April and were slated to debut at NXT TakeOver: Orlando, but that obviously didn’t happen. Are we about to see them join the Tuesday night show, or will we be discussing a new plan in a few weeks?
We’ll find out sometime over the next few days.
