Asuka’s historic title reign, now in its second year, has survived a lot of challenges. Horsewomen. Returning legends. A Fatal 4Way.
At TakeOver: Chicago, the Empress of Tomorrow found herself in Triple Threat with two unpredictable individuals... SAnitY’s Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot. In the champ’s favor, the two challengers hate each other a lot. Unfortunately, she had no champion’s advantage, and could lose the belt without being pinned or submitted.
Both factors came into play early, as Cross made to take out Ruby so she could focus on Asuka herself. But a short time later, when Riot went to dive onto the champ, Cross snuck in to take out her rival and those two rivals battled for the next couple minutes.
Chaos was the name of the game from there, no matter who was in the ring... or outside it. Eventually, the rivals teamed up to viciously clothesline the champ to the floor, but before either of them could finish the other (Cross hit a neckbreaker, Riot responded with a facebuster), Asuka slid back in with a knee and fell on top of both of them to retain.
These ladies seemed ready for Asuka, but the champion found a way to leave with her title again. And the record-breaking run rolls on.
