Rumors indicated WWE would find a top contender to the Universal championship as early as tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw. That wasn’t quite true, though this week’s show did make clear when we’ll find out who that top contender will be.
Indeed, Raw General Manager Kurt Angle opened the evening by announcing a Fatal 5-Way for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV) on June 4, 2017, in Baltimore, Maryland.
The participants:
- Roman Reigns
- Bray Wyatt
- Seth Rollins
- Samoa Joe
- Finn Balor
Those are the top stars of the brand and all have a legitimate claim to top contender status before this match even takes place. It’s a simple way to get a new challenger for Brock Lesnar and provides plenty of room for storylines to play out over the next few weeks.
