Initial reports indicated WWE planned a triple threat match — Seth Rollins vs. The Miz vs. Finn Balor — for tonight’s (May 1, 2017) episode of Monday Night Raw in Sacramento that would crown the next top contender to the Universal championship. Those reports were close!
All of that was true, except for the Universal championship part. Instead, Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose showed up to say he was holding the top title on the red brand and he’s been itching for a good fight. So he gave Raw General Manager Kurt Angle a call and the main event was set, winner gets Ambrose at a later date.
They put together a fantastic main event, a triple threat worthy of the “this is awesome” chants the fans in California showered it with. Rollins, in particular, was flying around like a man possessed and it sure looked like he was going to win.
Then, Samoa Joe took him out.
Next, it looked like Balor was going to win.
Then, Bray Wyatt took him out.
So Miz won.
