What should be next for the New Day?

WWE.com

The New Day are a curious case. The team of Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, and Big E are still a really hot act but at the same time, it sometimes seems there’s nothing for them to accomplish. After they broke Demolition’s record to become the longest reigning WWE tag team champions of all time, it seemed like creative had a tough time figuring out what was next for the trio. They got the gig to host WrestleMania, which was a good way to utilize their talents, but prior to that, they just seemed to hang around.

With the Superstar Shake-Up this week, it will give us a decent idea of what is next for the popular group. We’ll go over the options and you can let us know in the poll at the end what you’d like to see for the New Day.

1) They can stay together and continue to work in the tag division.

After they finally lost the tag team titles to Sheamus and Cesaro, it seemed like there was not much to do as a team for these guys. However, with recent roster additions and the potential of a tag team shake up this week, that could change.

If they stay on the same brand with the newly called up Revival, it looks like there’s a feud there. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder made a name for themselves upon their debut when they didn’t just defeat the longest reigning tag champions but then attacked Kofi Kingston, who was just at ringside tending to his friends.

There’s also a possible feud with the Hardy Boyz, who returned to WWE at WrestleMania. Broken Matt Hardy had talked about battling the “Day of New” plenty and now he has the chance. There are also possible feuds with American Alpha if things shake that way or even a 3 on 3 feud if the Club (AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows) reunite.

2) They can stay together but start working as singles competitors.

In this case, we’d see more one on one feuds but they’d still be a unit. So perhaps Xavier Woods would try for a secondary title like the US championship. Or maybe Kofi or Big E could even set their eyes on the top prize on the brand.

They would work solo but still cut their New Day promos, support each other at ringside, and maybe most importantly, continue to move merchandise.

However, historically in wrestling these arrangements often don’t last long. The New Day could make it work, but more often it leads to the next possibility.

3) They can break up.

While the New Day could do a soft break up and still be friends, I think that would fall more into the last option. A break up usually results in at least one person turning heel and betraying another. That’ll lead to into a feud amongst members.

Given there are three of them, there are plenty of ways a break up could shake. Kofi or Big E could could turn to the dark side. (Woods could too obviously, but he would do the betrayed babyface so well.) Both Xavier and Kofi could go bad, setting up Big E as the big babyface. There are plenty of options for a New Day implosion.

Eventually, when WWE feels they are out of ideas or the group is really getting stale, this will likely happen. It could end up propelling someone like Big E into a bigger spotlight, and that should happen at one point. However, they’ll want to make sure there’s nothing more they can do as a faction before going this route.

4) They can split them in the Shake-Up.

This feels like the laziest route, but it can happen. I think if they are going to split them up, they may as well tell a good story that will help propel the guys into a good single’s career. Just moving Big E to SmackDown while Woods and Kingston stay on Raw lacks the drama that any of the other options could create.

Plus, I doubt either Daniel Bryan or Kurt Angle would just want part of the New Day on their brand.

If I were to chose, right now I’d choose one of the earlier options. I’d probably want to explore them as a faction with all the new possible feuds before splitting them up, though I’d also enjoy them work singles while still part of the New Day.

Let us know in the poll below and feel free to expand in the comments what you’d like to see next for the New Day.
