Let’s Say Nice Things About... John Cena’s United States Title Run

In an effort to bring some positivity to professional wrestling—and the world for that matter—Cageside Seats and its community will say nice things about people and things in wrestling every single day throughout 2017.

A reminder of the rules: only positivity allowed here. No back-handed compliments, and CERTAINLY NO NEGATIVITY. If you don’t have something nice to say, keep it to yourself, or take it elsewhere. Negative comments will be deleted and you may be subjected to a ban. Cool? Cool.

Today, John Cena turns 40. Hard to believe, right? Since we’ve covered Cena himself earlier this year in this feature, today we’ll cover something Cena-related. Today’s subject: John Cena’s United States Championship title reign.

You know there’s a theory among the Internet Wrestling Community at large that states whatever belt John Cena holds is the most important belt in WWE. And if he doesn’t hold a belt, the “Being John Cena” Championship is the most important title in the company.

For about six months, I legit looked forward to title bouts involving John Cena than title bouts involving WWE Champion Seth Rollins. I dunno what got into John in that six month period, but it seems like he was a completely different wrestler than the prior five or ten years or for that matter, even pre-US title run.

Maybe it’s the pressure of being a main eventer no longer weighing on him, maybe it’s the different set of people he was up against. But that US title run reinvigorated his career. And for the first time in a long time, I was pissed when Cena lost the belt. I was personally enjoying the US Open Challenge every week.

Your turn. Say something nice about John Cena’s United States Championship run.

And if you have a suggestion for a future “Let’s Say Nice Things About...”, hit me up on Twitter @notoriouseddie. I promise I won’t bite.
