WrestleMania 33: Gallows & Anderson vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Cesaro & Sheamus full match preview

Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. The Good Brothers (c) vs. Cesaro & Sheamus

Raw tag team championship match

Since showing up in WWE after last year’s WrestleMania, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson spent much of that time coming up short in tag title opportunities. Now that they’ve finally captured the belts, they’ll have to grab them from above the ring before two other teams that are just about as desperate as they were.padding The New Day’s

The Road to WrestleMania

Cesaro & Sheamus had a similar record of futility against the longest reigning tag champs in WWE history, The New Day, in 2016. But the duo formed by former Raw General Mick Foley was finally able to beat Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods in December. Unfortunately, their run wasn’t to be nearly as long as the trio they unthroned, as they would end up losing their first feud to Gallows & Anderson on the Royal Rumble pre-show.

The Swiss Superman & the Celtic Warrior routinely ran afoul of another team who debuted on the main roster a week before Gallows & Anderson last Spring - Enzo Amore & Big Cass. In fact, the New York/New Jersey duo cost them their contractual rematch against when Zo & Cass were baited into attacking the Good Brothers and triggering the disqualification.

That set off a series of matches between the two teams which built to a Foley-mandated #1 contenders match to determine who would get the WrestleMania title shot.

Because (as we learned while they were being continally cheated out of the belts by the Princes of Positivity) The Club boys are pretty dumb, Luke & Karl decided to crash that contest, thinking it would mean they wouldn’t have to defend their championship this weekend.

Of course, it just led to the GM making their match a Triple Threat and opening them up to the possibility of dropping the titles without being pinned or submitted.

But Gallows & Anderson may have brought the odds slightly back into their favor this past Monday, when their backstage attack on Sheamus & Cesaro led to an in-ring ladder war a few segments later.

WWE officials used that as a reason to turn this Sunday’s match into a ladder match, where the Good Brothers have as a good a chance at climbing to grab the belts as anyone else. Plus, the Celtic Warrior may not be at 100% after he needed 16 stitches to close a gash in his head caused by a ladder thrown by Cass... an act which probably re-ignited hostilites between those two teams, and could leave them focused on hurting each other while Gallows & Anderson lock in on retaining their titles.

What's at stake?

The current titleholders and the team they beat for the straps would like a big win on the Grandest Stage of Them All to wipe the slate clean from the past year’s worth of questionable decisions on their part. And for the same reason anyone likes to win at WrestleMania.

For Zo & Cass, a win here would mean they can call themselves champs for the first time in their WWE careers. The Smacktalker Skywalker and his seven foot friend have been popular through out their runs in NXT and now on Raw, but they’ve never won the big one, despite numerous opportunities.

Then there’s the possibility of a fourth team entering the match. Matt & Jeff Hardy are kind of known for ‘Mania ladder matches. While it looks like a lock they’ll be back in the WWE fold soon, there’s no guarantee it will happen at Camping World Stadium. But that this match hasn’t been moved to Kickoff will keep fans hoping for a DELIGHTFUL surprise.

Whoever climbs the ladder and grabs the red & silver, we’ll tell you about it right here at cSs!
