WWE signs Stardom’s Kairi Hojo, is Io Shirai far behind?

NXT’s women’s division is about to get a whole lot more... piratical.

That’s right, after months of rumors, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required but recommended) that Kairi Hojo is leaving Stardom and headed to WWE on a three-year contract.

If you don’t follow modern-day Japanese women’s wrestling, you may remember Ms. Hojo from her one-episode stint in Lucha Underground opposite Pentagon, Jr. as one third of the Black Lotus Triad, where she was billed as Doku alongside fellow Stardom wrestlers Io Shirai (Hitokiri) and Mayu Iwatani (Yurei). And for the totally uninitiated, take a look at this quick highlight reel—

Stardom are understandably upset to see her go, seeing as she had told them at one point that she planned to stay, and now they have to move rather quickly to get the Wonder of Stardom title off her (and indeed just had her drop the Goddesses of Stardom Championship she held with Yoko Bito just days ago), seeing as she is currently set to leave Stardom in April.

But wait, there’s more! It seems as though Io Shirai, current World of Stardom Champion, one third of the Artist of Stardom Champions Queen’s Quest, and arguably best woman wrestler in the world right now is reconsidering staying with Stardom herself. She’ll be traveling to Orlando for WrestleMania weekend, even though she’s not booked on any of the multitudinous independent wrestling shows going down surrounding the proverbial Grandaddy of Them All.

Now, she could just be heading out to Florida to take in the sights, of course, but it doesn’t take much to read between the lines here. It would, no doubt, be a huge blow to Stardom to lose probably their two top stars, one right after the other.

There you have it, folks
