Alberto Del Rio — now working as Alberto El Patron — was interviewed by Busted Open on SiriusXM Rush and had this to say about WWE (transcript via Wrestling Inc):

"To be honest, I think they need me more than I need them. That's the reason they didn't want me to leave, because they don't have anyone to represent the Latin culture, the Latin market in the company."

Alberto was released by the company in September of last year but has kept himself in headlines for various reasons, be they good or bad. But he’s found steady work and is now heading up Combate Americas. WWE, meanwhile, has absolutely struggled to find someone to replace Del Rio, at least at the same level he was at.

There’s a very real question to ask regarding how hard they’re even trying.

That, then, is at least part of why he can make comments like this and there isn’t much that can be said in return.

Right?
