Daniel Bryan returned to the ring... to referee the dark match at last night’s SmackDown taping

We’re never going to get that Miz vs. Daniel Bryan feud SmackDown and Talking Smack brilliantly set-up last year, but at least the retired wrestler/current General Manager was able to get in the ring and get a measure of revenge against his long-time rival in his home state last night (Feb. 7).

In the dark match segment after both SmackDown Live and 205 Live were broadcast, Bryan put on the striped shirt and served as special guest referee for an Intercontinental title match between champion Dean Ambrose and Miz.

This presumably means Talking Smack, where DB served as co-host with Renee Young, was pre-taped this week, as that show was airing on WWE Network after the cruiserweights, while this match was happening in the arena after Jack Gallagher earned himself a Fastlane title shot.

It also caps a week where WWE pulled out all the stops for the live audiences of their two big television shows. Seattle got to “YES!” along with Bryan, while Portland got an unexpected Brock Lesnar appearance.

Here are some pics of the Beard as the third man in the ring last night:
